Definition

Brown's Town is a large inland town in St. Ann, Jamaica, named after its founder, Hamilton Brown. Brown was an Irishman who started out humbly as an estate book-keeper and rose to become a large landowner in St. Ann. He represented the parish in the House of Assembly for 22 years and also built the original St. Mark's Church (Anglican). He died in 1843 and is buried in the churchyard.
